Text to follow
The Installation is a single line incinerator designed to have a capacity to process 1.5 tonnes (maximum) of waste an hour (approximately 10,000 tonnes a year).  Clinical Waste including hazardous waste is collected and delivered to the site from Hospitals and other generators of clinical/hazardous waste.  The waste arrives in wheeled bins ready for loading directly into the feed hopper of the incinerator.  Energy is recovered from the combustion gases in the form of steam by a waste heat boiler, steam is produced at a maximum 6,000 Kg/hour and supplied @ 10 bar to the adjoining Hospital.  Steam not required is condensed and put back to the Hospitals 'hot well'.

The facility comprises the whole of the incineration plant and site: waste reception, waste storage, fuel and air supply facilities, boiler, facilities for the treatment of exhaust gases, treatment and storage of residues and waste water, stack, devices and systems for controlling incineration operations and the the recording and monitoring of incineration conditions.
After the third stage combustion chamber there is an emergency pressure relief vent, which may operate to prevent dangerous conditions within the plant.  The relief vent has its own discharge stack.
Empty bins are washed on site and the bin washings are discharged to the three-stage interceptor before discharge to sewer.  Also discharged to the interceptor are floor washings, blowdown from the waste heat boiler and ash quench pit water.
The incinerator produces approx. 1,200 tonnes of ash per annum and 500 tonnes of baghouse dust/spent lime per annum.  There are no other significant sources of general solid wastes or special wastes generated.
