Summary

Also known as Evermore Lisahally Power Station is a Combined Heat and Power Biomass EfW facility based on processing up to 110,000 tonnes per annum of Wood Waste producing 15.8 MW of electricity and 6 MW of heat. The facility is located in Derry in Northern Ireland[1]. The feedstock is supplied locally under a long-term fuel contract with Stobart Biomass and the energy generated is purchased under a long-term contact with Power NI[3].

The facility was developed by Evermore Energy (ERE Developments Limited), and is operated by Burmeister Wain Scandinavian Contractor (BWSC), who also provided turnkey EPC services for this facility. Operations started at the end of 2015 after construction began in mid-2013[1].

This facility was the first biomass fired power station to be developed in Northern Ireland and remains the largest[4].

Plant

The facility cost £83m to develop and funding was provided by investors Investec, UK Green Investment Bank, Gravis, and EKF[1].

The boiler technology implemented at the facility was supplied by Weiss Kessel-Anlagen-und Maschinenbau GmbH[1].

Annual Sustainability Tonnage Input/Fuel

The tonnage[5] received by the plant in the most recent Annual Sustainability Report and for the previous 3 years for Error: no local variable "asyear" has been set. was reported by Ofgem as below[6]:

Year Waste Wood (m3) Waste Wood (t) Straw Miscanthus Arboricultrual Waste Sawmill Residue Foresrty Residue Round Wood Short Rotation Coppice MBM Other Material

Waste Tonnage, By Origin

The table shows a list of the Waste for the Permit tbc1, that has arrived into sites as reported to the Regulator and then publicised in their reported statistics. The Data used is from the most recent returns. The total reported tonnage arriving at the site was: Expression error: Unexpected < operator.t. Where this tonnage exceeds that reported in year of the corresponding annual report, this may be due to the following reasons:

  • Tonnage may have been received but not incinerated, i.e. the material is held pending incineration (the operator return to the EA reports as received whereas the annual report focuses on when the waste is incinerated.)
  • Material may have been received into the site but treated in some other way than incineration.
  • Material may have been received on the but transferred out of site for disposal/treatment at another site rather than incineration on the site.
