Summary

A Biomass Waste combined heat and power (CHP) EFW facility utilising Wood Waste to generate 3.2 MW. The facility is located at the BSW sawmill in Carlisle. The electricity generated is used in the sawmill production process and the heat is utilised in the kilns, treatment plant, and offices[2].

This facility was developed in partnership with Dallol Energy[2], and became operational in 2016[3].

Plant

The facility cost £2.5 million to develop and is part of BSW’s £11 million investment programme for biomass energy facilities at its mills in the UK and Latvia[2].

Tonnage Input/Fuel

The tonnage received by the plant is not reported in the most recent Annual Sustainability Report for 2018-19[4] by Ofgem or the SEPA data for the calendar year (i.e. January 2018 to December 2018).
