An EfW facility based upon conventional combustion technology, located at Westfield Opencast Site, Fife in Scotland. The Westfield EfW Plant is forecast to have a maximum capacity of 240,000 tonnes per annum generating 23MW with around 21.5MW of electricity exported.

Summary

An EfW facility based upon conventional combustion technology, located at Westfield Opencast Site, Fife in Scotland. The Westfield EfW Plant is forecast to have a maximum capacity of 240,000 tonnes per annum generating 23MW with around 21.5MW of electricity exported. The site is owned by Hargreaves Services and was developed by Brockwell Energy[1].

In September 2022 it was announced that Westfield Energy Recovery Ltd (the owner of the project) was sold by Brockwell Energy to a joint venture between Viridor and Equitix[2].

It is expected that the facility will become operational by early 2025[3].

Technology

The moving-grate combustion technology will be provided by Hitachi Zosen Inova with their own technology[4].

Construction

Hitachi Zosen Inova is the EPC and Operational and Management contractor for this facility. Construction is due to commence in February 2022 and the plant is expected to be fully operational in early 2025[3].

Waste Input

The facility will accept residual waste as feedstock and RDF with Cireco supplying the facility[5].
